Recently I began volunteering at our local Humane Society. I’ve been crazy about animals since I was very young, dogs always being my favorite, and I figured my time and energy would be well spent helping homeless pets get taken care of and adopted. I figured correct because it has been one of the greatest experiences of my life.

Because not only am I a dog handler and get to spend lots of time with puppies and training dogs, which are two of my favorite things to do, but I also have become the photographer for the humane society’s site. My job is to take pictures of the new dogs/puppies that come in so we have updated pictures of the available pets on the website. I also put them on my Humane Society blog.

It has been so much fun. I love working with my fellow animal lovers and making myself useful around the shelter. I’ve been able to combine my two passions and put them to work — and good work at that.

There’s just one teensy weensy problem…

I keep falling in love.

I can’t help that all of the puppies are 100% adorable and that I want to take them all home! I was actually doing okay…until today. When I met Bella.

Oh. My. Gosh. I wanted that puppy.

Most of the puppies go crazy when you take them out. Bella was content to curl up in my lap and fall asleep.

I loved the other pups and would have taken any of them home, but this one very quickly stole my heart. She fell in love with me, curling up against me and whining at the cage door when I wasn’t holding her, and I with her. She was amazingly sweet and cute.

But alas, my cruel parents said no. I could not take her home like I so longed to, and chances are I will not see her again since such a cute puppy is sure to adopt out very quickly. But I will never forget that cute little puppy that was content to snuggle in my lap and give me kisses.

And I’m sure I’ll fall in love all over again with another puppy next week. Cause, that’s just what I do.

“MOOOOOOM WHY WAS I BORN IN THIS AGE? I BELONG IN THE 80′S!”

I say this. All. The. Time.

Seriously, everything awesome happened in the 80′s. You had Michael Jackson, Journey, Peter Cetera, Foreigner, REO Speedwagon, ELO, Lionel Richie…now what do we have? Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, and Lady Gaga.

*facepalm*

And that’s just the music! The original Star Wars trilogy was releasing, A-Team was playing, and Pac Man was the hit game.

Now we’ve got what, Call of Duty?

*facepalm*

It’s so hard being an 80′s fan in a 2000′s world.

For the record, yes I know Journey is still touring, as well as several of the other bands I mentioned. But they are no where around here and by the time I’m married and able to force my husband to take me to them, they probably won’t be  anymore. And I will be very very sad.

Here’s how my day went on

6:45AM
Alarm goes off. I slip out of bed, hit the snooze, and climb back into bed. I repeat this several times.

7:20AM
Actually got out of bed. It takes me a while, okay people?

7:30AM
Sat down with brothers to eat breakfast. It was oatmeal. Yay. Actually, I didn’t even have oatmeal. I had a breakfast drink thing so whatever yucky oatmeal.

7:40AM
Watched an episode of How It’s Made with Dad and the boys. Decide that I never ever in a million years will have lasik eye surgery.

8:10AM
Decide to go running as scheduled.

8:45AM
Went running.

9:10AM
Returned from running and took shower.

9:50AM
I grabbed my guitar and sat down at my piano. I alternated practicing piano and guitar and singing.

Watched Toby’s previous daily vlog that I’d forgotten to watch the day before. Proceeded to laugh immensely.  Why does that guy have to be so stinking funny?

Researched rats as pets, as I am very likely getting two of my own within a few days. It will be awesome, y’all. Just you wait.

Argued with a bunch of teenagers over the interwebs. Sometimes people can drive me crazy. >_>

Started lunch. Macaroni and cheese was on the menu, much to the boy’s pleasure.

Got home and messed around on the piano some more until it it was time to make dinner. As you can see, music runs through my blood just a bit.

Sat down as a family and ate Taco Salad for dinner. YUM.

Watched Toby’s vlog of the day. Realized: high-fiving cameras is so awesome.

Browsed Netflix looking for something interesting to watch. The other day I was so bored I watched a TV Disney movie. I was ready for something more interesting.

Saw North & South and remembered how great that movie was and that I should watch it again. Later.

Saw cover of Vampire Diaries TV show. Decided that I don’t want to live on this planet anymore.

I went to Hulu instead and started watching the first episode of Master Chef, which I’d never seen before. I was bored after like 20 seconds. As you can tell, my attention span is incredibly long.

Decided to watch Food Network Star instead.

Started an episode of Touch. That show is so awesome…just saying.

Finished show. Closed laptop and went to brush teeth.

Started Bible study.

Turned out lights.

Made an 80′s playlist for my phone so that ELO and Journey could mingle and become acquainted with REO Speedwagon and such.

I figured out how to play the hymn “Holy Holy Holy” last night. I was bored so I recorded it and now I’m putting it on my blog.

I don’t know what I was thinking.

But recently I’ve realized that I not only like archery myself, but I tend to prefer characters who wield a bow in books and movies/TV.

For instance:

I got my nickname Lia from Katy, who called me that because my favorite character, and the one I was most like, in Lisa Bergren’s River of Time series(possibly the best series of books ever written) was Lia, who was an archer.

One of my very favorite TV series’ is Robin Hood.

As you all know by now, my favorite of the Avengers(though tying with Thor) was Hawkeye.

And recently I have become a big fan of the Green Arrow, who actually will have his own show here pretty soon.

Legolas. Duh. He can like see everything and freakin’ never runs out of arrows. Though, I must say I really did like Aragorn too. But Legolas was pretty darn cool. Plus he took down that giant elephant thing. The oliphant or whatever.

Yep. Archery is awesome. It’s fascinating. And I am determined that I will become an archer someday.

What will probably happen is I finally get a bow and then I will be really bad at it and will have exactly 0 skill in that area.

And then I will cry.

And then I will find a sword and do fencing instead.

Instead of pictures of food I'm putting up random old pictures of me that I find in my mom's old blog posts. Food probably would have been a better route. Sorry people.

I drink milk. A lot of it. In fact, sometimes I get scolded for how much milk I’m drinking. Mom is always like “KAIT I just bought that gallon yesterday, why is it almost GONE?!” and then I’m all like “I was thirsty.” And then she usually throws something that me.

There will never be a time in my life where I buy a half of a gallon of milk. Even when it’s just me and my husband, I will easily go through a gallon a week.

I like milk.

I have a major dislike for ticks and leeches. I can deal with beetles, spiders(seriously, I kept a brown widow as a pet for months), bees, roaches, flies(scary, I know), etc, but put me head to head with ticks or leeches, and I feel like I’m going to puke. It’s not good. Like really. We had a leech in our back porch a few months ago and it was really grossing me out. Luckily it was disposed of. But before that…eeeyaghblah I don’t even want to think about it.

Anything under 78 degrees causes me to wear a jacket. Yep. 80 degrees and up is what I love. Also, I like getting dirty. I will totally engage in a mud fight. In fact, below is a picture of me making mud pies. Sure, that was 4 years ago but whatever. I was like 13. And I’d do it again.

I don’t do enclosed spaces. Caves. Elevators. Okay, I’ll go on an elevator but that doesn’t mean I’ll like it. I always worry about the power going out and being stuck in a black box. That would not go well for me.

I also don’t walk over grates. One of my friends makes fun of me all the time for the grate thing. Loser. He obviously doesn’t understand the danger.

Also, things that may jump out and grab me that live in sewers and under my bed.

And that’s enough things about me for one day. Here’s some food that I want to eat right now.

I am totally saving up my pennies to get one. Okay maybe. Probably. I mean, I have enough money obviously. It’s only, like $10 to get a dragon egg. But I’m also saving to get this and this and and this and this and pretty much everything on my Pinterest board here so I really need to prioritize.

Less than uber exciting. They’re obviously fake.

Pretty much I need a Mac and to be chilling at Panera.

Surprise! I got new glasses.
Yeah they’re awesome. What I don’t understand is why anytime people try them on they make a funny face.

Yeah...sadly I know these people. Actually they're pretty awesome so whatever.

And here is something that defines me a bit. Because I’m really not either full on geek or nerd.
