The weather here in Jacksonville has been retarded lately.

It has been hopping from 70 to 50 degrees overnight, not exaggerating. I swear the weathermen are just throwing random numbers into the forecast because they’re predictions are completely inaccurate every single day. I seriously have no idea how to dress for the day until I actually step outside.

Now only that, but we have pollen alerts and also excessively low humidity. Yesterday the humidity level was at 20%. Usually it’s between 70%-90% here on the beach.

So not only are my allergies acting up like crazy, making me sneeze, endure lovely headaches, and have itchy sinuses, but the lack of moisture in the air is also leaving my throat sore and dry.

I got a whopping 4 hours of restless sleep last night.

Thanks Florida, you’re the best.

At least we can go to the beach on those warmer days.

My brother and his best friend.

They’re weird.

I was playing four square today with three of the boys around the neighborhood, Connor, Donald, and Chris. My brudders were inside eating dinner. Out of nowhere this kid who I’ve never seen before comes up, about 13 or 14 is my guess, and asks to play with us. Donald obviously knew him and was like “Sure.”. I was in the King’s spot so the kid, who’s name I later learned was Roman, picked it up and handed it to me with a “Here ma’am”.

I was thinking “Well that was nice.”

We continued and later Donald threw it to me hard so I said “Ow” and Roman was like “Are you okay?” And I was like “Yeaaaah…”

And then later he did something, I don’t remember what, and Donald was like “Yeah Kaity, he’s a lady’s man.” And I was like “Uhh…” and Roman was like “WELL I have a girlfriend.”

And I was all like “Good for you man.” But in my head I was like “What the heck…”

And that’s just how my evening went.

Apparently there’s some A-Z thing going on this month where bloggers are planning on every day writing about something that starts with that letter all the way from A-Z. I’m late obviously because it’s April 3rd but whatever. I’m starting now so deal with it.

A is for A…

Hmm. Well that didn’t go very well. I’m just sitting here typing trying to figure out what to post about that begins with A.

Or more accurately, how I can take a word that starts with A and incorporate it into the story I want to tell about my brother, oh my sweet darling little brother, who walked into the kitchen while I was making pancakes this morning holding by the tail in each hand two very dead goldfish, asking me if I wanted to give them to my pet crawfish, Pepe Jacque LOL the First. He didn’t say his whole name but I didn’t even notice at the time because I was too busy screaming “WHAT THE HECK GET THOSE THINGS OUT OF MY KITCHEN”.

Then he dropped one on the floor by accident.

There was some major facepalming going on.

It was atrocious.

AHA! Atrocious. A is for Atrociousness in my kitchen this morning.

If you were there, you would have thought it was inhumane too, people.

Not to the fish of course.

But to me.

I mean, the fish was already dead. Can’t be too inhumane towards it after that point.

The end! I guess I’ll be back tomorrow with B.

If you’re lucky.

Less than a year ago when we lived in our “old” house in Turkey Oaks, the boys informed me that earlier that day the Google Maps truck had come through our culdesac and that they had chased it and waved at it and were going to be on Google Maps street view now.
You can imagine my response.
“Uhuh.”

Today we sat down to complete our morning routine by watching Rhett and Link’s GMM morning show, and as we watched it Joe and I were reminded of the event I just spoke of since this episode was about a guy caught peeing on Google Maps street view(hilarious episode you can find here).
So when we had finished watching GMM, we went to Google Maps and looked up our old street address. And what do you know.

Yes, this is our old house.
Yes. Those are 5 of my 7 siblings. Plus two of their friends.

You'll notice all the bikes in the street. Obviously we were the neatest culdesac around.

And here we have a bunch of their friends chasing the Google Maps truck. Those poor drivers. They were probably all like “OHMYGOSH we’re being chased by insane, crazed midgets! Step on it, go go GO.”

My brudders are around there somewhere, chasing it or waving or whatever. You can see Gabe in the yard running. I don’t know what he was doing.

Of course this is the, like, ONE TIME I wasn’t outside.(I was outside playing with the kids alllllll the time.)
It’s okay though because I don’t necessarily want to be on Google Maps.

And so ends the story of the famous children in Turkey Oaks.

I have a very strange sense of humor, as many of you may know from either a) knowing me or b) reading this blog enough.

Like, I seriously think that sometimes my parents are really like “Oh my gosh, honey. Where did we go wrong? She thinks this talking unicorn is hilarious. Why is she showing us this?”

Talking unicorn? Yep. I have finally found Charlie the Unicorn. Why has it taken me so long? Probably because my friends who have seen it were lame and totally didn’t show me.

I think those friends I am talking about right now know I’m talking about them.

Yes. I’m talking about you. You’re so lame.

And what was my reaction?

I laughed. A lot. And then watched it again. And then forced my parents to watch it.

And now I walk around going “Charrrlie. Charrrlie. We’re on a bridge Charlie!”

And I’m pretty sure I am driving my parents mad because while I thought they’d find it completely hilarious like I did, they totally were all like “What da heck this is so DUMB.”

And then my younger brother caught the last half of it and was going “Charrrlie! Chaaaarrrrlie!” afterwards.

And my dad looked at me and was all like “Yeah thanks Kait.”

So then I was all like “Dad! I found a map to candy mountain!”

And Mom was all like “KAIT. Stop it already.”

I think that they believe I have some mental problem because I like rainbows and unicorns and everything that makes the world good and not dumb.

My mom has an obsession with zebras. I’m not really sure how this is any worse.

Except she doesn’t go around say “Zeeeeebra. ZEEEEBRA” in a really annoying voice.

I just don’t understand why they hate unicorns and candy mountains.

Like I said, I have a weird sense of humor. And find most stupid things to be funny. It makes life way easier to live. Because let’s be honest; there’s a lot of stupid things going on out there.

But laughter is awesome. So I do it a lot.

And that’s just me.

“Remember laughing? Laughter enhances the blood flow to the body’s extremities and improves cardiovascular function. Laughter releases endorphins and other natural mood elevating and pain-killing chemicals, improves the transfer of oxygen and nutrients to internal organs.
Laughter boosts the immune system and helps the body fight off disease, cancer cells as well as viral, bacterial and other infections. Being happy is the best cure of all diseases!”
- Patch Adams

There are some things one just learns to do when growing up in a house of 10, and being the eldest of the 8 children in that large family. Some of the things are just plain weird. Others people wish they could do. And yet others seem impossible.

Among these things are:

Learning how to hit Ctrl, Alt, and Del on your keyboard all at the same time…with one hand.
People, this may seem simple, but I’d like to see you precariously balance a laptop on your lap while holding a squirming infant AND having your computer freeze up, causing you to have to hit a certain series of buttons without dropping the fussy child. Unless of course…you’re the eldest girl of 8. Or are my mom.
P.S. I should really like to see a lefty attempt this.

Using my left hand equally as well as my right EXCEPT for when it comes to writing.
Yes it’s true. I can use a computer mouse, fork, spatula, and just about everything else nigh equally as well with my left hand as my right. I can even make a sandwich with only my left hand(yes, my wife skillz are growing too. Sandwich making, like a boss ). Writing though? Mmm nope not even a hint at being good. It’s very sad. But I can play Rockband left handed. Does that count for something? I also, strangely enough, actually naturally do a lot of things as a lefty would, such as ripstik, ride a scooter, and hold a baby. Very strange.

One of the few times I actually used my right hand to eat while holding a baby.

Cook dinner and read a book at the same time.
Actually, I’m not sure if this has really anything to do with being the eldest of 8. It may just have to do with the fact that I am a bookaholic. But I’m sure it counts for something. Also, I can hold a child, cook, and read a book, also.

Cook dinner, babysit 7 kids, and talk on the phone at the same time.
Toria, my sis, if you are reading this than you know what I mean. Often times when we are on the phone, I am cooking. And generally, there is at least one small child at my feet. Commonly, it is Jesse. “Kait, you making bredest? You making bredest? Kait? Kait? Kait you making bredest? Kait-”
“YES Jesse!”
“Oh. Kait? Kait? Time for dinner? Kait? Time for dinner? Kait? Kait? Kait? Time for dinner?”
“Jesse!”
And that’s just how things go.

Pretty much do anything else while holding a child.
Umm. Yeah. I hold kids a lot. I naturally adapted.

There’s a lot more stuff that I just can’t think of right now. I’m sure I’ll remember like fifty things tomorrow and be like WHY THE HECK DIDN’T I WAIT TO POST THAT or something.

But yeah. Life here pretty much demands that I develop superhuman skillz that allow me cart around a child, grocery shop, carry on a conversation through text with a friend, inform Mother that we don’t actually need those tortillas, and avoid knocking over the end caps on each aisle.

Oh yeah. I’m super MWIT.

Most of you probably don’t know what that is because pretty much only my oldest readers remember that. I came up with it when I was, like, 11.

Mother/Wife In Training. MWIT. I even had a button for it at one time. I have no idea what happened to it. I can’t find it on my blog anywhere. That’s too bad.

So anyway.

Whenever I see something that I really like, I say “oh I HEART that!!” because I don’t like using the word “love” for a possession since the Bible clearly tells us what the word “love” means. Now, of course I don’t always use “I heart”, nor do I find it wrong to use “I love”, it’s just something my mom and I do, and we actually find it kinda fun! So I was thinking, I should make a list of my “I Hearts”. Now keep in mind that “I Heart” and “I Like” are two totally different things! If I were to do an “I Like” list it would be endless. “I Heart” is specifically for a severe enjoyment of a possesion or hobby. And this doesn’t count stuff like God, family, and friends.
So I here by present my “I Hearts”.

I heart historical fiction.
I heart sweet tea.
I heart photography.
I heart electricity.
I heart dogs.
I heart training dogs.

Yup. That’s me. In, but not of. It’s my motto. The thing that defines me. What does it mean? Let me tell you.

In, but not of is a saying which means that I am in this world, but refusing to be part of this world. About 3 months ago, a friend of mine, and the rest of her family, gave me a different perspective on life after telling me that saying.
The world is evil and I, being a Christian, should do my best to push away the evil. I figured that I don’t have much of a choice about being in this world, but I most certainly do have a choice about whethet or not I will be a part of the world. Don’t agree with me? Here’s another reason. – I want my light to shine. I want to be able to walk down the street and for people to just look at me and know that I am different, not normal. Here are a couple of ways I do that.

I wear skirts 95% of the time. Except for sports like Volleyball, and the occasional horseback riding, I almost always wear skirts. I have only 1 pair of jeans, and I don’t even feel comfortable in them because I never wear them.

I keep my hair long and un-colored.

I do not wear makeup, except for the occasional light eye shadow for a slight sparkle and lip gloss.

I do not wear high-heel shoes. Ever. Never have and never will. They are also very bad for your back.

At 14, most teens are a looking forward to, or are already dating. I will not be participating in the casual dating, but will be courted in the proper way. My knight will ask my father to court me, when most parents have really no idea what their kids are up to. My father, on the night of my courtship, will know exactly where I will be at what time and when I will be home.

I do not participate in Facebook, MySpace, or Flickr, where I am open to evil. In fact, I don’t even use chat. The reason I don’t use Facebook and MySpace is that they put not-so-appropriate adds on, and I would be open for any person to come and talk to me, therefore not being able to choose my friends as wisely as I would if I met them in person. As our pastor put it a couple weeks ago, “Why should we participate in something that Christ is excluded from?”. As for Flickr, your open to bad pictures left and right. You never know what your going to find on there.

There are a lot more ways that I refrain from this world, those are just the main ones. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that you should throw every pair of jeans you have into the trash, it’s just my way of saying “Hey, I’m different.”.
